An underwater metal detector helps find any metal object buried underground or underwater. A magnetometer can be used as an underwater metal detector. However, a magnetometer can detect only magnetic (ferrous) metals. Also, while an underwater metal detector range is rarely more than 2 metres, a magnetometer can detect large objects, such as cars, at tens of metres. Magnetometers help see archeological sites, shipwrecks, and other buried or submerged ferrous objects. To search larger areas underwater, boat towed underwater metal detectors are extremely useful. Sea-View Diving has several models of hand held waterproof metal detectors to add to your underwater search equipment tool box.

The Pulse 8X is JW Fishers top-of-the-line detector waterproof metal detector. It has a 200-foot depth rated housing and a 6-foot maximum detection range. Also, it’s heavy-duty construction, and high sensitivity makes the Pulse 8X the choice of professionals everywhere.

The specific design of the SAR-1 makes it ideal for military, law enforcement and public safety dive teams. Specifically to locate metallic objects in low-visibility environments. The “snareless” SAR-1 waterproof metal detector has a streamlined design with no external wires or cables. In conclusion, this makes this detector the ideal tool for work in environments with potential entanglement hazards.
Diver Mag1 Magnetometer
by JW Fishers
The Diver Mag 1 is a top-performing microprocessor-driven marine magnetometer detection system with a one nano-tesla sensitivity. This hand-held mag is a super-sensitive detector of ferrous metal (iron/steel) that works equally well on land and underwater.
CT-1 Cable Tracker
by JW Fishers
The Cable Tracker 1 (CT-1) system was specifically designed to locate and track buried power and communications cables. This waterproof metal detector system will locate cables buried on land or underwater. The CT-1 will locate and track cables and identify faults or breaks in a cable.
One of the great features of an underwater metal detectors is its ability to work above and below water. Like the Pulse 8X, some detectors have all the accessories needed for land and underwater detecting. This makes them, in effect, two detectors in one. The Pulse Induction Technology (PI) used in waterproof metal detectors makes them ideal for searching deserts and other areas with high mineral content. They are suitable because PI machines ignore mineralization in the ground. Another advantage of JW Fishers PI machines is the interchangeable coil feature. This enables attaching different-sized heads to the detector’s electronics unit. This makes the Pulse 8X ideal for meteor hunters. They are ideal because they can attach the large 8 x 48-inch oval. In addition, you can mount it on the front of an all-terrain vehicle (ATV).
Many recreational scuba divers discover the fun and excitement an underwater metal detector can bring to their diving. Sea-View Diving has a great selection of high-quality detectors and other underwater search equipment by JW Fishers. JW Fishers also has two excellent choices for boat towed waterproof metal detectors.

Pulse 8X Waterproof Metal Detector
The Pulse 8X package also includes a carry bag and land headphones. The JW Fishers Pulse 8X have both visual and audio target indicators. When a metal object is detected, the audio alarm sounds, and a meter shows the strength of the signal. Additionally, the meter helps determine the target’s size and burial depth. This indication is not easily conveyed by the blinking LED indicators or the audio-only readout of other detectors. Also, the audio alarm is loud enough for a diver to hear. It does this without having the earphone directly over the ear easily.
CT-1 Cable Tracker
The Cable Tracker 1 system comprises the Signal Injector control box and the Cable Tracker Probe. The Signal Injector is attached to an exposed part of the cable on land. A 25 Hz or 1,024 Hz signal is induced into the cable. The operator carries or swims with the Cable Tracker Probe along the length of the cable receiving the transmitted signal. Typically, the lower frequency 25 Hz signal is initially used to locate the cable as it can be detected from greater distances. Once the approximate location of the cable is determined, the 1,024 frequency is used to pinpoint the exact location of the cable precisely. When searching for power or multi-conductor communications cables, it is not generally necessary to use the Signal Injector as the Probe can detect the frequency of the AC signal (50, 60, or 1024 Hz). A switch on the Probe allows the operator to select the frequency.
SAR-1 Waterproof Metal Detector
The SAR-1 works equally well in fresh or saltwater and detects various targets, including shell casings, handguns, rifles, shotguns, knives, UXO, mines, and an explosive device containing metal. The unit will also detect large targets (such as automobile or aluminum boat) up to 6 feet. This high-performance Pulse Induction waterproof metal detector detects both ferrous and nonferrous metal objects while ignoring the environment’s minerals. The detector will not give false signals from saltwater, coral, high iron rocks, or other ground mineralization, as some other types of detectors do. As with all JWF detectors, the detection range is not affected by the material between the search coil and the metal target. Whether detecting through air, water, silt, sand, mud, or rock, the detection range remains the same.
DiverMag-1 Underwater Magnetometer
The mag will locate pipelines, cables, cannons, dredge parts, and just about any ferrous metal object of any size. Ruggedly constructed for commercial operations, the DIVER MAG 1 was designed with user-friendly controls for ease of operation. Out of the water, the handle grip makes the mag easy to carry.
Operator selectable cycle times (how often a reading is taken) of 2, 5, or 10 seconds allow for a strong return signal and a fast response to detect even small targets. An adjustable sensitivity switch makes pinpointing targets extremely easy. The DIVER MAG 1 features a tri-axial noise-cancelling sensor that allows the mag to be held in any position without affecting the readout’s sensitivity or stability. The readout is displayed on an easy-to-see 5 digit LED for murky water or night operations. Also, an audio output allows the diver to operate the system without watching the LED display. Easy to maneuver with operator adjustable buoyancy, the operator can use the DIVER MAG 1 anywhere in the world.
