Recently while researching the family tree of my Horwood relatives, I
discovered a note stating that my grandfather's brother (William Horwood- b. Oct.7, 1880,
in Berryhill England) was drowned on the Empress of Ireland and that my grandfather's
sister Mabel Horwood (b. April 20, 1889) was a surviver. Mabel was married to Alfred
Keith who was a Lieutenant Colonel in the Salvation Army. However, I do not know if
they were together on the ship. Can you confirm that these individiuals were
passengers and tell me how to find out other information? Your web site has been an
excellent source and I have ordered the book listed there.

William Horwood was born Oct.11, 1880 (not Oct 7, 1880) in Berry Hill,
Newland, Gloucestershire, England. It was Alfred Keith who was rescued from the
Empress. I don't believe Mabel was aboard the ship. Alfred Keith son, Harding
Keith is still alive in London, Ontario. William Horwood's last surviving son died
March 2001. I have all the family documents pertaining to William Horwood and the
correspondence sent by him while aboard the Empress to his wife as well as all
correspondence that resulted from his loss.
